Net users are responding to images appearing on TV [1] [ja] showing children crying in potato fields in Osaka (Japan) on the morning of the 16th after the city sent in forces to clear the way for a national highway between Fushimi Ward [2] and Kadoma Ward [3]. On bulletin boards threads [4] [ja], some are complaining about the theatrics of the televised protest, others questioning why the potatoes had not been dug up in advance of the road work. Blogger KoshianX drew many bookmarks with a post examining and criticizing [5] [ja] the way the whole event was covered in the mass media.
