The Balkans: Against “Balkanization”

Hudin thinks it's time to stop using the word “Balkanization”: “Of course we don't say USSRization, Czechoslovakization, British Empirization, or even Austro-Hungarization. No, we say Balkanization and we say it too much.”

We do say Americanization, francization, Russification, etc. It simply means “to adopt the character of X____X country or region”. The word Balkanization is useful in the sense that it describes a geopolitical phenomenon which (unfortunatly) is common, but not exclusive, to the Balkans.
