Bangladesh: Political slaves

ABM Ashrafuzzaman writes in Ashraf's column that Bangladeshi political leaders need supporters or followers, but not slaves. ”These slaves blindly support their respective leaders, even if such leaders are grossly wrong, corrupt and unpatriotic. These slaves are mostly created by sycophants, and dalals (paid agents) employed by a leader in exchange of undue favor,” he explains.

  • Unfortunately Bangladesh has acquired in its populace an abundance of whining complainers formerly in uniform – who cannot or will not give us workable solution to our unending problems. Their responsibility or commitment to the nations begins and ends with lectures in TV Talk shows, writing letters to Editors, News paper articles and belatedly ‘Blogs’.

No one in his right mind wants to be a slave – but when our system and institutions are ‘slavish’ by nature it would be foolhardy to expect any change – not in the next 50 years. Lets talk about solutions – merely mouthing perfidious words or slogans will not help, and let us also make way for differing opinions – for “Dissent is the highest form of patriotism” !
