Serbia: Solidarity for South Ossetia

Eric Gordy of East Ethnia has translated a “special message of brotherhood” for Serbia from the President of South Ossetia, published in the Serbian newspaper Glas gadosti. Byzantine Blog reports that on Tuesday protesters against Radovan Karadžić's arrest went in front of the Russian Embassy in Serbia to congratulate the representatives of Russian Federation on “successfully restoring peace and the victory of Russian peace-keeping forces in South Ossetia”.

If this is true that Russia is trying to help South Ossetians I would be the first to applaud. But I do not trust Russia’s definition of “help.” That’s the problem. If anyone of you knows what Russians mean by help, let me know! In Poland, for instance, Russians have oppressed us in a de facto slavery for 40 years! But the official government (and people’s) line, as taught in schools and in the press, was always that “Russians are here to help”! If this is the help the Ossetians mean, I spit on this help! Why? Because am a Pole!
