Kyrgyzstan: First Summer Events

Categories: Central Asia & Caucasus, Kyrgyzstan, Arts & Culture, Media & Journalism, Politics

There was a recent Miss Tourism Kyrgyzstan pageant, held on the eve of summer. Some bloggers have visited this contest and published photos of the event. The chosen Miss Tourism and other participants of the contest didn’t impress Kyrgyz bloggers.

Blogger baisalov wrote [1] [ru]:

Miss Tourism looks like Filipino and other east-Asian beauties. I think, first vice-miss Tourism has more or less averaged and typical face of Kyrgyzstan.

simpu joked [2] [ru]

Last two girls are more or less attractive. I am clever man and I understand that their appeal is because of make-up.

One more “fashion event”. Russian newspaper “Komsomolskaja Pravda” published an article “Kyrgyzstan – Fatherland of Dior” about the incomes from clothing manufacturing in Kyrgyzstan.

Mirsulzhan read this article and doubted [3] [ru]:

“Well, this article has some questionable numbers and arguments. For example: from 1 million 200 thousands of Bishkek residents, 800 thousands are working in the clothing manufacture. But we have something to think about. For example, we can think about the change of clothing manufacture to a legal activity to make fakes of the worldwide brands”.

aka_b_m also put in doubt [4] some facts from the article [ru].

“I doubt about “from 1 million 200 thousands of Bishkek residents, 800 thousands are working in clothing manufacture” and “”Russians are the owners of most of the business”. But, in general this is true and timely article”.

Meanwhile, Kyrgyz police will take a special course on how to be correct with the foreign tourists. Moreover, there will be special stickers “Aigul” for foreign tourists. If the car has such stickers, Kyrgyz police hasn’t right to stop this car, except in cases when the driver really broke the law.

Mirsulzhan told [5] [ru]:

“When I have a car I will buy this sticker and everyone should do the same”.

khaan demured:

“No, it isn’t worthy of it. Such stickers will help our police to point out that there is a rich person in the car”.

Anyway, the main question of the Diesel Forum users was: what or who is Aigul? Only one user scan explained [6] why stickers called “Aigul” [ru]:

“The flower Aigul grows at the “Aigul-too” mountain in the Batken region. It flowers once a year on the second half of May. That is an object of the pride of the locals, because this flower exists in Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan only and nowhere more”.

There was an informal summit of the Heads of States of CIS in Saint Petersburg, where President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev delivered a speech.

baisalov disappointed [7] with the speech of the President [ru].

“Impression is the same: “crisises are becoming deeper and deeper”, “we need to create a Eurasia development fund”, and at last he suggested all to join the global communism. There weren’t any words about Kyrgyzstan. Why didn’t Bakiev use the chance with such a big tribune to highlight our national economical interests and to tell about the priority projects which need direct investments? Why?”

mirsulzhan also criticized [8] the suggestion of Kurmanbek Bakiev to create a Global economic program to eliminate the gap between rich and poor countries by charity [ru].

“Every country whether it is Zimbabwe or Kyrgyzstan, should be responsible for solving their own problems. I think the problems in these countries are solvable. It is irresponsible to move the responsibility to other people. These countries should realize that their problems are solvable at 100%”.
