U.S.A.: Arthur Mkoyan's Dream Act

Talk Turkey comments on the case of an immigrant from Armenia who has been in the United States since the age of two. The valedictorian at his high school in Fresno, Arthur Mkoyan will be deported after he graduates. The blog criticizes Congress for not passing the Dream Act which would allow illegal immigrants who are high-achieving high school students the legal right to stay in the United States.

In response to John, the gentleman who posted comment 9. . . This young man is 17 years old, and he came to this country over 14 years ago. . . he is not a bad criminal, he was 3 years old or younger when he was brought to the United States! And all evidence shows that he and his family is not on any kind of public assistance, i.e. foodstamps, welfair, medicaid, etc. . . judging from your use of the English language, sir, it would be best if you were sent away instead of this young man.

    To NYC Girl,

No, if he gets deported, he will likely have a 10 year bar from re-entering the united states. that means that even though he graduated as the valedictorian of an american high school, he will not even be able to attend a community college here.

In response to John. This family came here legally and have never once asked for or taken public welfare. They are hard working citizens who contribute to our city.

If the family were to leave before the deportation date Arthur could return on a student visa but the family would have to prove that they could pay and the tuition is much higher for international students. Also Arthur would be forced to serve in the army before he would even have a chance of coming back.
