East Timor: Where does hope live?

On May 5th 1999, Portugal and Indonesia signed a document agreeing to hold a UN-supervised referendum. Ângela Carrascalão [pt] reminds the date: “We all believed our destiny would be brilliant! Was it a long time ago? Not really. There have been only 9 years. And yet, although a historic day, who still remembers it in these troubled days in which we live? Who gets relieved in the goodwill spirit that back then cheered the leaders of the Timorese Resistance? And hope, where does it live?”

I think the leaders forget the History because they promote let the past be the past. The
decision of the state is that the past is the
past. We have to build our future. Are we strong
enough to put the past in the past? We should not be and we must not be.We must not avoid the past. We must tell the truth, we must say that something happened in
Timor Leste and Indonesia in the past.

its bad if the nation is not strong base with the history because base on history we can building better future not the other way.

    Thank you very much.
