Hi Neha, what has this to do with Bangladesh?
Are there any blogs which explain why its only foreign women performing this cheerleader function? Why not Indian girls/women? I think that says a lot.
Shafiur: Well the post was written by a Bangladeshi (by origin or citizenship..). And fact is that the sport is immensely popular in the subcontinent. In fact, I’ve seen quite a lot of discussion on this issue on several blogs – and I’ll link to it in the next few days. Though I agree with you – the whole business of “importing” cheerleaders panders to the stereotypes we as a culture have about “foreign women”.
Where does he say he is a bangladeshi? He says he is a bengali.
Sorry to labour the point, but the fact is the title of your post is entirely misleading. The “cheerleader trouble” is in India and not in Bangladesh.
Shafiur: Two points. We categorize posts under the author’s geographic origin. The author of that blog has alluded to being of Bangladeshi origin quite a few times. I well understand that he/ she could be a Canadian Bengali. But since we don’t link to blogs in the US/ Canada/ W.Europe – my interest is in blogs – either from South Asia, or by diaspora.
That said.. the post is about the author’s opinion. Just because you don’t live in a country where the actual issue happens doesn’t mean that you can’t have an opinion on it right? Categorizing something as Bangladesh just makes it easier for people looking for posts from Bangladesh – even if they are about some other country. The title of the post is technically just “Cheerleader Trouble”. Bangladesh is the country tag.
Give over Neha. If i as a regular blogger and GV reader can find this strange what chance has the surfer who is not aware of your arcane categorisation and subcategorisation policies? You have shifted attention from India to Bangladesh concerning this topic and that is bizarre. Period.
Apologies in that case. I probably should have included the term India in the post then.
