The background to this is the government of Prime Minister Mitchell is facing a significant challenge to hold on to power in the next general election which has to be called between now and March 2009. He has said he will not leave until “i am satisfied” that there is a group that is capable of succeding him. He is seeking a fourth straight term, therefore he is running around trying to win an election in which the deck is stacked against him.

There is no doubt that the Prime Minister or the Minister of National Security has first hand knowledge of this spying incident against the opposition. The high ranking Police officer who sent the spy is known here to take his orders directly from the Prime Minister hiself. This situation developed since Cricket world cup in 2006.

Mr. Mitchell has been in scandal after scandal and is involved in several court cases in the United States and has recently been granted immunity by the US government against prosecution because he is a sitting Prime Minister. So with time running our for him in the position he is doing all he can to get a sympathy vote that will postpopne the inevitable.

Before we cast judgement on Mitchell as the obvious scapegoat- perhaps, just perhaps, the police espionage might have something to do with Senator Arley Gill’s boat being used to smuggle guns and drugs into the country. The NDC is just making a lot of noise to create a smokescreen.
