India: Widows on Valentine's

An apt post for Valentine's Day, The Rational Fool on the plight of Indian widows and the religious sanction that allows society to ostracize them.

  • Religious sanction is a very minor matter compared to social constrictions. That too in educated, urban cities (like Mumbai) where any pontiff hardly ever dictates daily life. It is people-young, eductated, urban- in society who use such strictures if any to perpetuate their narrow minded and selfish behaviour. I have so many examples I could quote but it would serve no purpose at all.
