Nigeria: Super Eagles: What went wrong?

Nigerian Football Fan blog on Super Eagles loss to Cameroon: “Someone said this on the forum. 1.Based on the Eagles performance in this match, I honestly do not see a difference between the Eguavoen and the Vogts era. Any contrary opinion? 2.What went wrong against Ivory coast? 3.Solutions? Common, lets debate. Be informative and no Bias”

first and foremost the ivorians were the better side we lost the game in the mid-field .secondly ,there was a tactical selection error by vogts .thirldy most of the super eagles were not hungry for goals as they should .i dont see the eagles going beyond the group stage

  • Let us not write off the Super Eagles yet. My gut feeling is that they will repay the elephants of Ivory Coast later in the competition. They will correct the lapses and become Super as we all expect. Optimism? Yes but it is not misplaced. You never can know what the Nigerian coach is planning. He seemed to have planned to lose to the elephants only to surprise them later. He almost said this himself before the match if you watch his words. To have an opportunity to repay Ivory Coast he has to rattle well both Mali and Benin or else our player will all be on their ways to their different clubs after the 1st round and the coach will be back in Germany where he comes from.

how can you say he planned to lose to the ivorians ,that is absurd ,

  • It is not absurd; coaches have been known to plan to lose an early difficult match only to surprise the winners later especially when they know their teams get better as more matches are played. However Vogt definitely did not plan this and if he did it failed. Those who said that the practice venue would not serve Nigeria well are right. We can now tell because those who were fantastic in practices in Europe became passengers in Ghana heat. Vogt himself noticed this. Is he packing to return to Germany yet? I think he should be packing, fast. Untill we stop the colonial mentality of idolising the foreign-based players and coaches we will not have a good professional football league and a good super eagles. Let our home-based players play for us. And that will truely represent our football.

Nigerian football has been heading ‘South’ ever since the Atlanta competition. I put most of the blame on the Administration of the Footballing house.
It is high time the country started looking into Youth football. I believe a bulk of the national team should be under the age of 25. Let us stop this short cuts to success and let us grow a system which will replenish old players in no time. Nigeria needs at least 10 years of serious and adequate preparation and planning to contest with the rest of Africa. We should all forget about the old times when we defeat the likes of Congo or Togo by 4 goals to nill. Football has progressed, unfortunately Nigeria has not moved up with this transition. To me, we are just an average footballing nation. The likes of Obafemi and Yobo are just average players trying to earn a living in England.
The NFA should wake up and start lookiing at how to exploit the huge footballing potentials in Nigeria. There are kids out there willing to play their hearts out for the nation. And please, enough of all this foreign coach ‘jagbajantis” it has not taken us to anywhere and it would not. The outfit responsible for footing the bill for Berti Vogts should be ashamed of itself. For that rediculous amount of money, a lot can be done to improve facilites or organise grassroot competitions.

WHY NIGERIA ARE UNABLE TO GET AT LEAST 18 WORLD STANDARD SOCCER PLAYERS CONTINUED TO AMAZE ME. WE HAVE SOCCER PLAYER ALL OVER THE COUNTRY BUT LAZINESS WOUNLD NOT ALLOW THE COACHES TO TRUELY AND HONESTLY SEARCH AROUND FOR REAL STRONG, INTELLIGENT, SERIOUS AND READY TO MAKE MONEY SOCCER PLAYERS.ARE NIGERIANS LESS INTELLIGENT THAN BEFORE? CAN’T NIGERIANS PLAYERS BE TAUGHT HOW TO READ THE GAME? WHERE ARE THE STRIKERS? THE WORLD CUP IS ALL MOST HERE. HOW CAN NIGERIA SHOW THE WORLD THAT NIGERIAN PLAYERS ARE NOT BRAIN DEAD? IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP.

it is one thing to play african style of soccer competition and it’s another to play world standard grade as in the case of world cup competitions .Nigeria needs to put it’s house in order and upgrade itself. The whole blacks in the world look forward to see either cameroon or nigeria to bring senior world cup to Africa. With Nigerian supper eagles changing its name to ordinary eagles,Ghana or Egypt should take the mantle and do Africa proud. The whole black race in the world supports Africa when it comes to soccer World cup, but again and again africa continued to disappoint. It’s very sad!

I personally don´t think Shuaib Amodu has anything to offer Nigerians, we need to do something fast before we find ourselves at the mercy of the world cup ticket again. It still baffles me why Nwanneri would be made the Captain of the Eagles in our match against Mozambique. In the absence of Kanu and Yobo, Osaze or Enyeama definitely should be the Captain. Another blunder committed by Amodu was the inclusion of Sanni kaita, kaita is not better than several home based players in Nigeria. We had a crumbled midfield against Mozambique and the defence became porouse. Kaita was just in the midfield making wrong passes and committing several infringements. It is high time the Nigerian FA looked into this issue with a view to finding solutions

The best coach Nigeria ever had was Bonfere Jo, this man did his best with a view to winning gold for Nigeria at the Atlanta Olympics as well as taking Nigeria to the finals of the Cup of Nations which was co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana in 2002. But the match was won by Cameroun due to the refree´s controversial decision on affirmative action.
To my utmost consternation, the only way Nigeria could show appreciation to Bonfere Jo was to sack him. I still haven´t seen any Nigerian coach who has attained this feat, Nigerian FA should learn how to take care of coaches.
At this juncture, Nigerians would like to hear from the Sports Minister what he has done about the millions of dollars stolen by the officials of FA.
It is a shame that the FA had only been able to concoct an absurdly implausible tale about the stolen money.
These people are nothing but “Intelligent Robbers”

In my last comment, I talked about the Cup of nations that was co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana in 2000 but I mistakenly typed 2002.
PLS NOTE – It was a typographical error.
      Thanks

He who fails to plan has definitely planned to fail, we need to plan for our day to day activities so that we will not always find ourselves at the mercy of every new situation. Our indigenous coaches seem a little lackadaisical and do not often show much interest or enthusiasm in their coaching jobs.
I personally don´t have anything against Shuaib Amodu but the truth of the matter is based on the fact that, Nigerians will never stop agitating for more friendlies.
How many friendlies have we played in the last few months and when was the last time we played a friendly match? I am not so sure that these coaches are taking cognizance of the importance of friendly matches.
The number of friendlies that you have played will surely determine your position on FIFA ranking as well as preparing you against any stronger opposition. Why do we think Cameroun is always above every other African Team on FIFA ranking? It is simply because they are leaving no stone unturned.
Nigerians are tired of playing friendlies with weaker footballing nations like Jamaica and Colombia. Why can´t we show interest in countries like France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Germany or Spain?
I would suggest the attention of the Sports Minister be drawn to this with a view to avoiding losing the World Cup Ticket the second time.
