Belize: Flight Ban

Back to Living in Paradise reports that a civil aviation ban barring two of Belize's airlines from flying into Guatemala has been having far-ranging effects: “While the airlines have been forced to refund fares…the biggest loser has been the tourist industry in Peten which has been deprived of around thirty visitors per day…”

Why have flights between banned?? Is there trouble there. The last time I was I Costa Rica, many American & European Expatriates were being tracked down and deported. My girlfriend & I both received very rough treatment at the border. This ws in early september of this yoar. What is going on in Central America????????

  • Guatemala is citing that their aviation regulations have changed. I think its politically motivated, or maybe someone didn’t pay the appropriate bribe to the appropriate official. The OAS has given up on trying to help Belize and Guatemala come to some sort of border dispute agreement.

John – which border did you get rough treatment at?
