Ethiopia: Teddy Afro Concert Review

A review of Teddy Afro concert in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: “Last night I attended a concert by Teddy Afro. I think I'd heard the name maybe once before K mentioned going. The concert was being held at the Ghion, so I imagined a nice little crowd in one of the ballrooms or something.”

Hey! i have attended Teddy Afro’s concert in Jimma. And ito was the most objective, entertaining, and successfull concert. Therefore, from this and his other works i can gues that that the Ghion’s concert would be 100% successful.

I think Teddy Afro is one of the most talented and matured singer in Ethiopia. You haven’t had anyone like him for such a long time. He makes me proud to be ethiopian!

    Best of luck to you!

For me the greatest Ethiopian artist of all time is probably Teddy Afro (Tewodros Kassahun). A young role model, extremely talented composer, writer/lyricist and vocalist. I was waiting for an opportunity to see his live performance. I was unable to see him live in Addis for our Millennium. He was ether not invited to the Millennium Hall (doubt it very much) or he was man/rich enough to decline the millions offered by the Sheik (so it was said in Addis). Whatever the reason, I missed a golden opportunity and had to wait until he turns up to London.

The night of 22nd of December was my luckiest night. The night Teddy Afro was scheduled to perform to his hundreds of funs in and around London. For 9 o’clock performance, me and my friends got the Concert Hall just before 9.

Teddy didn’t bother to show up before 12:30. When we heard the beats of his songs, we just couldn’t help but jump, scream, danced and gave hug to each other. Teddy added more excitement by taking his time at backstage as his bank continued to play his great songs. After 5 or so minutes, it was time for me to see my idol face to face, Teddy came out of the curtains, holding his microphone and singing amazingly.

I wish the night continued as it was expected or even the way it started. Teddy’s frequent breaks and reluctance to entertain spoiled the night. He was off the stage almost for same duration as he was on stage. His luck of enthusiasm and luck of respect to his funs killed our mood. His song choices were untimely, slow to the point that the whole crowed was sent to a stand still. At this point all Teddy could manage to come up was “London?! What is going on? Are you sleeping?”

Teddy mentioned he had stomach ache…was this the reason for this terrible performance?

Me and my friends are very disappointed, surly we are not asking our £25 back but we ask an apology and for him to get better and to have some respect to his fans.

Teddy might have got £5 of the £25 we paid and the rest might have been “eaten up” by the usual London incompetent so called promoters…

But I can tell you one thing for sure for £20, people were blown away by Beyonce.

We believe Teddy is man enough to admit his mistake and to learn from it.

Make sure to send this to all Ethiopian around the globe, because we deserve more!

    Regards,

    Ethio
