Iran: Dogs arrested

The blogger Dastan reports on the arrest of dogs by Iranian police on September 9th, to rid the country of ‘western influences’ and ‘immodesty’. The dog owners are shocked at the arrests and are worried about the fate of their pets. Furthermore, dastan notes that the dogs are neither fed nor given water. The following pictures show some of the dogs that were arrested and the conditions they are being kept in.

The blogger kamangir posts pictures of the dogs and notes

Clearly, these dogs are not meant to live in the conditions they are being kept, but, anyways, they do not treat human beings anything better.

Within kamangir’s post is a comment explaining one of the reasons for the dogs are being arrested, stating

In Islam dogs are impure, so anybody who keeps dogs has, for example, wash his or her hands after petting dogs. I think that he/she has to clean carpet if the dog’s been there 7 times before praying on it, and so forth. That’s why IRI is so against keeping the dogs at home, they think that if somebody has a dog this person is not a good muslim.
A pity, dogs are such a nice pets.

Another commenter tedders asks some pertinent questions, including

“Do “good” Muslims have any pets? Or does it depend on which branch of Islam or what mullah one decides to follow?”

There have also been reports by other media outlets that a young man was arrested for putting up signs around his neighborhood looking for his lost dog.

A young Iranian who was searching for his lost puppy in a Tehran neighborhood has been arrested and ordered to stand trial for ‘moral corruption’.
According to the Tehran daily, Etemad Melli, the young man was caught while putting up a notice in which he was promising a reward to anyone who found his dog.

According to ‘legend’, the ‘angel’ who visited Muhammad
would not enter a home that had a dog inside or a painting on the wall.

Wow. You muslims really are some backward people. You did not seem to have a problem with our search and rescue dogs when we, the infidal christian nations of the world, sent help to muslim countries that have been devistated with flood, earthquake, tsunami, famine, typhoons etc. I notice that few muslim nations send help. Why is that. And why is Al-lah (war and evil be his name) visits all these horrible things upon the pious muslim nations? Not a very friendly “god” you pray to.

Dogs are angels – no other angel would dream of invading their territory. I feel we have all had enough of these “righteous” creatures whose avowed intention is to foul the entire world with their dubious prohibitions and primitive nonsenses. There’s little doubt in my mind that their Mahdi has to be the Beast – rather sadly, for amongst them are beautiful, caring people.

I’m sure you will all be cheering when they invade Iran and murder half of the people there.

The poor animals…no creature deserves to live like that.

We’d best be seeing what our 9,000,000 American Moslems are doing with their pets.

Am now in favor of full-scale war on Iran; restore the Reza-Palhevis (sp?)

  • Maybe too many people die from infected dog bites. Maybe this is simply propaganda.

It is not however a reason to drop bombs on a sovereign nation. The West assumes that the nuclear reactors are a reason, and Iran’s disagreement is not a reflection of the state of dog pounds.

  • Nicholas,

Dogs have nothing to do with why the West should or should not drop bombs on a supporter of world terrorism who is attempting to develop nuclear weapons as you well know, and nobody is making that argument. There are good arguments for attacking Iran as the lesser of two evils, but I would bet that in your mind there is never a good reason for war.

Choose to be passively incinerated if you wish. I would prefer to act preemptively in self-preservation. Unfortunately, your death means my death and that of millions of others. For that reason, we must deny you your choice if Iran refuses to obey the nuclear non-proliferation treaty to which it is a party.

Iran has not been a threat to any of its neighbors since the latter days of the Persian Empire in 1747. In fact, the only wars it has been involved in since then were purely defensive ones. Iran resisted succesfully the rising colonial powers of Imperial Russia and the British Empire, losing almost half of its territories in the process during the corrupted Qajar dynasty. The only other modern day war that it was involved in was the 8 year defensive war against Saddam’s Iraq (which BTW were supported by the US). In fact, if the CIA had not overthrown the democratically elected prime minister Mossadegh in 1953 and replaced him with the corrupt US puppet, the Shah, the current mullahs would never have come to power. Call it blowback!

All who talk of a pre-emptive strike today on Iran are just being ignorant if not outright murderous or insane. Iran, as opposed to the US, Israel, India and Pakistan, IS a signatory of NPT (nuclear non-proliferation treaty), and therefore has every right under the treaty to develop a peaceful nuclear capability.

As far as religion is concerned, like most religions in this world, Shi’a Islam falls in the bottom ranks of morality and of no useful purpose to humanity. The sad fact that the ‘impure’ dogs (and other animals) have had to pay such a toll is just another tragic example of their moral depravity.
