Sierra Leone: Early election results in Sierra Leone

Results to be announced soon. Here are the early results: “93% of the of polling stations have reported their results
APC (All People’s Congress) is ahead at 44%, SLPP (Sierra Leone People’s Party) follows close behind at 38%. This is not a huge surprise I guess; everyone expected these two parties to get the most votes.”

I am glad that the first round of the elections in Sierra Leone went on peacefully as most people in the country were worried about an out break of war during the elections. I hope the second round of voting would be the same as none of the leading parties would attained the 55% required for a winner to be declared.
I welcome Margai’s alliance with the APC in preparation for the second round. This, I hope would break the current sectionalism of the votes. According the National Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone website (http://www.necsierraleone.org/), the current results shows that the SLPP has its strongest votes from the southern province, while the APC took control of the northern province and Western Urban area.
To all Sierra Leoneans, let us say no to sectional partisan and yes to unity, liberty, freedom, peace, and prosperity. My heart goes to the struggling youths in the country; to you I say: Saleone nah we yo’ne!

The truth remains that in every political parties stronghold districts, the party in favours votes will surpass the other. As per overoll districts votes there is no district be it SLPP or APC strongholds that people never casted votes for the two parties so telling people that APC was not voted for in Kenema and Kailahun etc. is a blantant lie. In the APC stronghold districts SLPP was lacking same way so with the APC lacking in SLPP strongholds. so why are people pin pointing on APC’s vote in the in SLPP stronghold areas.

Like in Kailahun, I can remember on the 8th of September, 2007 (runoff day)over hearing one of IRN linked radio stations interviewing APC’s polling agents whether they were being represented in all polling stations in the Kailahun district they said yes and that there was cordiality and that they are even leaving in a peaceful atmosphere. So where does the problem lies fellow Sierra Leoneans and those bent on spoiling the image of SLPP.
