Peru: Earthquake Hits Lima

Juan Arellano of Globalizado [ES] writes about the breaking news of a strong earthquake that hit the country. In addition, while President Alan Garcia addresses the nation, a tsunami warning is also issued.

  • All tsunami warnings have now been cancelled by the PTWC and according to the National Institute of Civil Defense the latest casualty figures are at 37 dead and 300 injured.

    WE ARE TRAVELLING TO LIMA, CUSCO, ETC. NEXT MONTH.
    WOULD LIKE TO HAVE INFORMATION ABOUT THE EARTHQUAKE.
    DID IT HIT LIMA AND WHAT KIND OF DAMAGE. IS IT SAFE
    TO GO. ARE FLIGHTS RUNNING NORMAL.

  • Kay, Lima is fine and flights are running, though it would be advisable to avoid Ica and Alta.
