The hard-liners in Miami have been asserting that Castro was dead or on his last leg for 10 months now, despite an avalanche of evidence to the contrary . Why would they get in touch with reality now?
I think they hold onto this fantasy out of wish-projection. But there is also an element of disbelief that Fidel would remain out of power if he was truly recovering, as all reports indicate. This goes against everything they have ever told us about him and his supposed primary interest absolute power. The continuation of the Revolution, post-Fidel, was another thing they never thought possible. Why we continue to allow the blinding passion of these folks to set our national policy on Cuba is a travesty. Echoes of pre-war Iraq intelligence and “cureveball” come to mind.
