Maternal Mortality Still High in Tunisia

Categories: Middle East & North Africa, Tunisia, Health, Women & Gender

Zizou from Djerba writes that Tunisia is on its way to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in all areas except for maternal mortality [1] [Fr]. Zizou attributes the problem to poor quality emergency health care, citing an incident where a woman who hemorrhaged after giving delivery died while waiting to be transfered to a better-equipped hospital; an ambulance was waiting but its driver was nowhere to be found.
