“It wasn't unexpected at all, at least not to me: several members of the Shoura Council decided to use the religion card against a proposal to change the Kingdom’s official Thursday-Friday weekend to Friday and Saturday. It is truly a pity how some people in this country would shove religion in everything even when it has nothing to do with it,” writes Saudi blogger Saudi Jeans.

Friday to Saturday Weekned
I did not mind the weekend being changed to Friday and Saturday, as long as one of the weekend days was Friday
A synchronisation with the global weekend would increase our communication with the rest of the world by about 33 per cent. We will gain 182 hours of communication with the West and 102 hours with the East
It is not a “pity” as you said, but it is a system that the whole kingdom depends on. On the other hand, it is a matter of time that the Saudi system will change to Friday-Saturday weekend for the best of all sides, and that is not a “problem” to the Saudi system.
