Egyptian blogger Abd al-Monem Mahmoud has been arrested

The 27 year-old Egyptian Muslim Brother journalist and blogger, Abd al-Monem Mahmoud, who is running the “I am Ikhwan” blog has been arrested today by the Egyptian police.

“I believe his arrest is mainly an attempt to silence the campaign against sending ikhwan leadership to military tribunal, Monem was coordinating the campaign which used blogs as it's main tool ” said Alaa Abd El Fattah in his e-mail alert.

  • sorry for distributing false information, abdol monem intended to turn himself in after special forces broke into his home and terrorized his elderly father today, but his lawyers found out that there is no legal arrest warrant (yet?).

he is currently hiding (and extremely worried about his parents), but he is not in custody yet.

  • ok they’ve finally arrested monem while he was trying to leave the country. no details yet.
