India: On Islamic Banking

Cuckoo's Call on the tenets of Islamic Banking. “Very few people know what Islamic banking is or what interest-free economy means. Only some devout Muslims who try to adhere strictly to the Islamic stricture against interest follow Islamic economics. We do not find mainstream academic institutions working on this subject.”

  • Hi Neha,
    you are absolutely true.
I haven’t come across any maiantream academic institute/university offering/working on the area of Islamic Banking. But I must tell you that Dept of Economics, University of Hyderabad, under the headship Prof. B Kamaiah, is planning to offer a course on this area. That apart, there is an institute in Hyderabad (The details will be comunicated later. if necessary) working exclusively on this area.

Myself being a Senior Research Fellow in Economic sociology is enthusiatic to know more about the domain and its development in India.
