It was thoughtful of Yangon Thu to set up information portal to Burmese guest workers in Thailand and elsewhere. Since the military regime and its missions overseas do not and are not willing to protect their own citizens it’s crucial that these guest workers have to be informed.
The culture of those people at Burmese missions abroad was and always have been unhelpful. They will have no hesitation to make themselves good on someone else’s misfortune. Where can these ‘exploited guest workers’ turn to for help?
When we were young nobody wants to leave their country for work overseas. Even in government department like foreign office, people had to take a pledge to go if they are posted overseas. Now, most of the positions are filled by the sons and daughters of the regime and it has its name change to Ministry of Family Affairs and not ‘Foreign Affairs’.
Education is the ‘silver bullet’ that can kill poverty so too will be the bullet that can kill ‘unlawful exploitation’.
