It is a shame that the SAR Hong Kong government insists in taking down such a historical landmark as the Star Ferry. I grew up in Hong Kong and I used to take the Star Ferry to go to school everyday. Growing up as a teenage in Hong Kong, my family went through some ups and downs. Star Ferry had been my witness. When I was sad, I longed for the the ten mins boat ride by myself as it would give me time to reflect and to recharge my battery; when I was happy, I would play the observer role and to observe other passengers. I often wondered who were these passengers and where were they headed and what were their experiences. I also was moved by the hard working ferry boat workers who worked tiredlessly at the Star ferry. They never got time to rest, for every ten mins, the loud alarm would alert them to get up and to pull up and to lower the heavy planks to let the passengers through. Although I don’t live in Hong Kong anymore, just as Hong Kong is also moving away from the past and towards the 21 century, however, something is worth keeping, especially Hong Kong’s properous future was built on the foundation of the past. Star Ferry was part of that foundation and it should not be removed. Thank you Star Ferry.
