Cote d'Ivoire: France and UN Resolution 1721

Categories: Sub-Saharan Africa, Cote d'Ivoire, France, Elections, International Relations, Politics

Generation Consciente writes (Fr): “Despite its best efforts, Paris did not succeed in getting the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution that might oust President Gbagbo [1]. After intense negotiations at the UN headquarters, Resolution 1721 regarding Cote d'Ivoire, a French intitiative, was adopted by the Security Council. It maintains Laurent Gbagbo at the head of Cote d'Ivoire for another year (until October 2007), a measure which further delays elections.”
