Argentina: Gender Equality Survey

The official Buenos Aires city government blog summarizes the results of a recent survey on inequality between men and women in Argentina's capital city [ES]: “8 out of 10 Buenos Aires residents call their society very or somewhat ‘machista.’ Furthermore, 70% think that women must do more to compete with men in the workplace … 59.5% of respondents did not put down the name of a single woman that they admire. Among those who did declare admiring a woman, only 73% could remember the name. The first on the list was Chilean President Michelle Bachelet followed by Madonna, Cristina Kirchner, and Elisa Carrió.” As always, more survey and poll numbers from around Latin America at Bloggings by Boz.

the problem of gender inequality is a multi-faceted problem. it also differs from society to society. most religions of the world profer that the man should always be before the woman which is a good precedence for the patriachal society we have today. Right now we are facing a problem in my constituent in Nigeria as regarding the third goal of the MDGs “promoting gender equality and empowering women” we almost got our office burnt in Funtua, Katsina State, Nigeria. Muslim clerics accused us of promoting and teaching anti-islamic doctrines to their youths and women. we also discovered that culture has a central role to play in the promotion of gender inequality in most societies in Afraica and other -places.
