St. Vincent & the Grenadines: Rewriting the anthem

St. Vincent & the Grenadines blogger Abeni wonders whether her country's national anthem could be re-written: “It's clear that verse was written from the perspective of the main island-St Vincent. So,what do the people of the Grenadines do when it gets to verse 3?

Do the people of the Grenadines feel offended? Have they raised the problem concerning the national anthem? If so, then Abeni is right to speak up for them. The national anthem should be one that every department in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is comfortable with. However, if it doesn`t offend anyone, why raise a mountain or a problem, when there are so many other problems to deal with? How about changing the face of crime, and how about making fathers more responsible to the children they father. These are more pressing problems to consern the people with.

I remember singing our national anthem over and over again in school. I also remember the grenadines being mentioned as well. ” Our little sister islands are those jems the lovely Grenadines…….. As vincentian we are proud of every part of the island the Grenadines included. We currently have too much problems far more major and damaging that our national anthem. Our unemployment rate is too high. We have too much migration as a result. Our people need assistance financially. These issues need to be address. They are causing social problems.

It’s not that the Grenadines are not mentioned. It’s me wondering how does a person from the Grenadines feel saying “our little sister islands are those gems the lovely Greandines”. Seems a bit off to me
