Sri Lanka: A new truce agreement

Moju on whether Sri Lanka needs a new truce agreement. “Sri Lanka needs a new ceasefire agreement to replace the lifeless 2002 Norwegian-sponsored pact and at least 15,000 foreign soldiers in the island’s northeast to ensure its implementation, says a former Finnish monitor of the truce.”

After the cease fire agreement in place majority of the Sri Lankan population thought the peace agreement as a right decision. But with recent brutal attacks by LTTE we have observed that it is NO use of moving in to peace talks. Since LTTE is not keeping their word nor STOP all attacks. Furthermore it is clearly shown by the suicide bombing attack taken place on October 16th (Monday) in Digampathana killing nearly 100 sailors and wounding 116 including few civilians. According to Navy sources they used Digampathana as a transit point to give clearance for the naval personnel coming from Colombo and Trincomalee before boarding into the Navy convoys coming from both directions. And majority of the army personnel were unarmed and therefore this is a cowardly act of LTTE. Furthermore on October 11th there was heavy fighting in Kilali, Muhamale and Nagarkoviil in Jaffna District killing at least 129 Sri Lanka soldiers in one day of fighting and more than 300 soldiers injured. And there is a highlighting fact whether LTTE is following the cease fire agreement or the peace talks concept in a more ethical manner!
