Botswana: the plight of living near diamond mines

The San people of Botswana would like you to boycott Botswana diamonds until they are allowed back into their ancestral land, writes Ethnicloft, quoting an advocacy group supporting the San’s opposition of their eviction.

The danger is people are going to naively support what they percieve as the underdogs without seriously understand the issue being debated, or the origin of the case.It is a handful of people san people (maybe 400) out of a several thousands who want to go back to the national park and hunt using modern weapons while further dessiminating the environment by modern dvelopments. The rest and indeed the majority of the San are benefiting greatly from the improving economic standard brought about by the very diamonds and other exports against which a few are campaining. It is a bit over the top, unethical and slightly selfish to try to empoverish millions, including Basarwa just to appease a few hundred people who are losing a political debate; especially when there isn’t any mining going on in the area in question. It is nice and romantic though to support the plight of the ‘underdog’ from the comfort of our knightsbrige living rooms without quite understanding the whole story.

Maybe you should listen to both sides of the story first, or simply await the judgement, which is expected in a few months.
