Brazil: Blogs Censored in the Electoral Process

Categories: Latin America, Brazil, Elections, Freedom of Speech

The Brazilian blogosphere is protesting that a blog from Amapá state was inexplicably brought down by its ISP (uol.com.br) even after it complied with an order from the Electoral Justice system. The blog ‘Repiquete no Meio do Mundo [1]‘ was forced to take off the picture of a wall painted with a caricature of the senate candidate JosĂ© Sarney (a former Brazilian president), and the censored blogger's sister [also a blogger [2]] is now facing the same pressure [3]. Bloggers [4] want to know why ‘Repiquete no Meio do Mundo [1]‘ is down, and the protest is growing [5].
