Turkey is Typing….

Categories: Middle East & North Africa, Turkey

Well I was hoping to be able to find a reaction from the Turkish bloggers in response to the Republic of Turkey's accouncement of their intention to cross its borders into Iraq to pursue PKK terrorists (as reported in this week's edition of Kurdistance on GV [1]), however I found very little reference to it at all in the Turkish blogosphere. Erkan's Field Diary [2] posts links to commentary on the accouncement [3]. Aydin.net mentions the Middle East Conflict [4]in general; but apart from those two blog entries this week there is little else on the topic. Additionally, this was a relatively quiet week in the Turkish/English Blogosphere….here is what they were talking about:

The White Path [5] this week posted his article (that appeared in the Washington Post) about sexism in Turkey [6]. Apparently the Diyanet, [7] Turkey's highest Islamic authority, is making a new policy to revise Islamic Hadith to erase sexism and extreme views on women. The hope is that the new progressive Islamic nation will gain favor with Europe.

Talk Turkey [8] has been continuing with his coverage of the popular vote for Ms. Turkey in the Miss Universe Competition [9]…check this post for more info on how to vote for your favorite. [10]

Amerikan Turk [11], our resident cyclist, was recently hit by a car [12]…luckily he was wearing his helmet and it looks like he is going to be ok [13]. Get well soon my friend!

The Round Ball in Ankara [14] writes about his unsurprising poll of his readers on the World Cup [15].

And Metroblogging: Istanbul waxes sentimental about Istanbul [16]and writes about the difficulties of buying new tiles for a bathroom with limited Turkish skills [17].

And for our top Turkish links of the week:
1. Deep Fried Fish [18] from Ober Kedi.
2. “I Bet You Didn't Know-Part 16″ [19] from Mavi Boncuk on Venetian Blinds…and Venetian Trading in Old Istanbul.
3. Art and Vandalism [20] from ISBN 9760806.
4. A brand new Turkish blog called Izmir Blog. [21]
