Russia, Ukraine: Bringing a Spouse to the U.S.

Stephan Clark of Everybody I Love You sets out to explore what it takes to bring one's foreign spouse to the United States – partly because this is what the subjects of his research often have to go through, but also because he is getting married to a Russian national himself. Stephan also writes about the wonderful work of currently Lviv-based photographer Carolyn Drake: “Carolyn and I had hoped to document the men and women who meet in Ukraine through the marriage agencies.”

  • I just married a Ukrainian citizen earlier this month and now I’m leaving to go back to the States in two days to finish school. I want my husband to come stay with me while I’m in school but from what we have read it seems that it will be a year or longer before he may even be approved to come to the States. I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions that may apply to my case specifically. I’ve read about other people bringing their spouses from Malaysia (which apparently is very hard to do) and from Costa Rica, but I haven’t read anything about a spouse from Ukraine. Any suggestions anyone? Any comments would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks,
    Liza
