Bermuda: Lunch for Democracy protest

Categories: Caribbean, Bermuda, Freedom of Speech, Governance, Law, LGBTQ+, Politics, Protest

Christian Dunleavy checks in on the Lunch for Democracy demonstration which took place today in Bermuda in protest against the government's poor handling of, and failure to pass, a bill to amend the country's Human Rights Act to outlaw discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. He is “pleasantly surprised at the turnout, which was much stronger than I think anyone had expected. I couldn't hear any of the speeches, but I think most people were being respectful but vocal.” [1] In another post, he notes his favourite slogans [2]: “Mandate my ass” and “I'm not gay, my girlfrend is.”
