UN Rights Council

EMDHR Writes reports on the protests by NGOS of the proposed appointment to the UN Rights Council of Jean Ziegler “founder of the “Muammar Khadhafi Human Rights Prize,” as an expert for the UN's new Human Rights Council. Human Rights actvists presented a letter to the UN stating “said that Mr. Ziegler's current term as UN hunger expert “embodied everything that was discredited about the old Commission on Human Rights: gross politicization, selectivity, lack of professionalism and lack of credibility.” Ziegler has been accused of paying little or no attention to regions with actual hunger crises, and instead devoting his attention to polemics against the West, capitalism, the U.S., and Israel.”
