China: Missing AIDS activist

Categories: East Asia, China, Digital Activism, Human Rights, Law

Zeng Jinyan, the wife of Chinese AIDS activist Hu Jia, is blogging about her attempts to find her husband [1] (ZH), who disappeared a month ago. She attempts to file a complaint, as provided for in Chinese law, of unlawful detention against the police, who have been stonewalling her since he went missing. “Yes, you have to keep asking the boss what to do,” she tells a group of unhelpful officials at the Tongzhou county prosecutor's office. “Otherwise if something goes wrong, he'll make a scapegoat of anyone who tried to do their job properly…I knew I had hit them on their sore spot, and wound up having to apologize for my loss of control, my bad manners, for my despair, and for my tears.”
