Sri Lanka: Knowing Peace

Knowing peace in Sri Lanka is unlikely if you were born after 1982 says Curious Yellow. “If you were born in '82, and if you were Tamil and lived in Colombo, or somewhere urbanised, then the chances are your parents had to flee, or take some kind of evasive action in '83.”

Nobody can reject or challenge what Neha says as it sounds like her own experience or the experience of people close to her heart. The things happened in Sri Lanka before and after 1983 are horrible and is history and unfortunately the present generation is bearing the cost.
Yet one thing that one should keep in mind is the goodwill shown by Muslims, Tamils and Sinhalese, at times of crisis, to one another. People belonging to these three groups risked their safety at times their lives to save the lives of so called “enemies”.
This gives me hope and I am sure that Sri Lanka will enjoy Peace once again.

It does not matter whether you were born a tamil or a Sinhalese or a Muslim, the conflict or the 83 riots affected each ethnic group in a harsh manner and it was not just Tamil people who had to flee but what about the Sinhala and Muslim people who protected and gave shelter to their Tamil neighbours and friends and had to face difficulties?? We have to understand that all the parties involved have a hand in what happened not just one ethnic group in particular.
