Syria: Blog Censorship in Syria

Categories: Middle East & North Africa, Syria

The Syrian Domari [1] (Arabic) yesterday became the first blog to be censored in Syria [2].

Syria Mirror reported [3] today that the Syrian Computer Society [4], one of two government-owned internet service providers in Syria, has blocked access to the Syrian Domari [1]. The unprecedented move comes two months after anonymous bloggers [5] (Arabic) launched Al Domari in November 2005. The blog uses satire, cartoons and pictures to criticize the current political situation in Syria, Damascene Blog [6] reports.
