United Arab Emirates: Accuracy and libel

Iqbal Al Tamimi, a TV journalist and one of Sharjah slasher’s victims, has asserted that she was quoted without her knowledge or consent by the local daily Gulf News. Secret Dubai don't agree and tells her that the best thing for her would be a course in basic journalism and media law.

The strangest thing is that Mr. Mohammad Yosef chirman of UAE journalists Association denied Miss Tamimi the membership of the Association so that she could not benifit from her legal rights, she said she applied a year ago, on the same day her previous boss of Internews has applied and he is a witness, and even though she fullfilled all requirements to this membership his association denied her the membership without any reason and without doing so in writing. one of the members( Miss Moza Matar ) told Altamimi that her membership was supposed to be ready since she fullfills all requirements as she submitted all necessary documents 3 times. Isnt it weard that he sided with a journalist against the other even though both of them work in UAE.

    Dear Mr. Sabah

The amount of truth in the reports regarding Mrs Tamimi are non mentionable. the reports were not fair since the Newspapers sided with Mrs Jandali since she has strong connections with people at high places who were frightened that Mrs Tamimi should won the case which means she will be compensated for the damages and the defaming, since the first article published by Jandali says that the women who were attacked were wearing tight Jeans, and were outside their homes after midnight, this meant to the society that they were not victims but they deserve what they got. Mrs Tamimi comes from a strict Muslim family a mother of four orphans, do you know what that means in the Arab world regarding reputation? I would advise you to contact Mrs Tamimi instead of increasing the amount of pain and injustice she is going through

What I find really strange is that Mrs Tamimi has contributed so much to the UAE through journalism and research and voulanteering activities, disabled, sports, victims of drugs, women issues etc.. she even was an editor in Dubai security magazine…and no one .. but no one stood beside her. Is this the way to show gratitude.
Mrs Tamimi is well known for her articles about social rights of women, yet no woman journalist or other wise shown any solidarity , while Jandali who no body heard of except that she was kicked out of Ajman for faking reports about the security and police had all the support…wearrrrrd

Last month Mrs Tamimi was awarded a certificate of apreciation for her writings about the Efforts of Emirates women at a celebration by the Dean of Faculty of Law in Sharjha University. I was there since I am one of the students. the theatre was full, no empty seat. they all like her and trust her. she is the perfect Muslem mother. we followed her after her speach outside and talked to her, she is a great person, I feel strange how can she be proud of her colleagues in journalism after all what happened to her!!

Wow.. I have done some googling about Mrs Tamimi she is something, she is a researcher, an excellent journalist, a poet, and a TV producer. may be this is the reason every body was against her. she is a courageous special woman.
