Russia: Forging Uzbek Ties

Tim Newman says that Russia's new deal for Uzbek gas is yet another piece of evidence that charges that US policy towards Uzbekistan was driven by a desire for gas and oil are utterly false.

  • Actually, it’s not so much the article proves the US were not after Uzbek oil and gas; a noticable absence of any oil and gas activity on the part of the West is the best indicator of that.

My point is more along the lines of Murray and his ilk screaming “oil and gas” at the US in the face of no evidence, yet when Russia blatantly does what he has been accusing the US of, i.e. gaining access to gas fields in return for political support, there is likely to be a deafening silence from Murray on the issue, and the same stuck record regarding the US.

  • Thanks for clarifying. There certainly are downsides to having a million windows open at once and doing two other things while I’m writing these things.
