Haiti: Child soldiers photo hoax

Somebody seems to think the issue of child soliders is a joke. According to the Archivex Haiti Archives, photos of child soldiers, allegedly Haitian and “led supposedly by gang leaders who have announced that they will vote for René Préval,” have been circulating on the internet. The photos have been identified by the site admin at haitforever.com as having been taken in Liberia.

  • Thank you, Georgia Popplewell, for mentioning this in your blog and crediting me for having called this hoax, early on. As far as hoaxes are concerned, this was to me one of the worst, but it means that some people will stop at nothing to thwart the will of the Haitian people, if it does not seem to go their way. And when I called this hoax, I had no idea that others would actually express their appreciation for that, I just wanted to stop it cold because it’s bad enough that children are exploited as soldiers — an ugly reality, as it is, should we now get into exploiting that reality further for mere political propaganda? That is akin to repeated rape.

Let’s protect our youth. They deserve a much better world than the one they’ve inherited.

On another note, I am so happy to have discovered Global Voices as a result and your blog in particular.
