Ethiopia: Ethnicity
Ethiopian Paradox discusses ethnicity in Ethiopia and ” Melese's strategy to establish a governing system of ethnic federalism emphasising rights of “nations, nationalities, and peoples.” He writes that in Ethiopia ethnicity has gone too far…..”Instead of ethnicity referring to cultural-linguistic communal groups, built around ties of real or putative kinship, taking pride in the in-group, common consciousness and identity of the group-as is the case in most multi-ethnic societies–under the TPLF, cultural prejudice and social discrimination against “others” has been encouraged and perverted into denying others basic human and economic rights. This ethnicity run wild exaggerates differences, intensifies resentments and antagonisms, and sharply divides races and nationalities. Mutual suspicion and hostility are bound to emerge in a society bent on defining itself in terms of such jostling and competing groups.”

The system of ethnic apartheid created by the ethno-fascist regime in Ethiopia has forced hundreds of thousands if not millions to be displaced from the regions they were born, grew up, lived and worked.
Many more thousands have been massacred by the inter-ethnic violence that the regime initiated and encouraged to take place. There has been no justice for the victims and their families. A government that is supposed to stand for all citizens has been authorising the deliberate targeting of some ethnic groups for annihilation and indiscriminate attack. The crimes committed have been so gory and sickening. Eye witness accounts say that many people have been blind folded and thrown off cliff faces or thrown into crocodile linested lakes and rivers.
Those people ethnically cleansed from their villages, have been made refuggees and thrown onto the streets in what the regime called ”ethnic killils” and left to die of starvation, disease and abuse.
Only a proper investigation carried out in due course will reveal the full extent of the crimes and atrocities committed by the ethno-fascist regime in Ethiopia. We hope that, democracy and justice will prevail soon for the sake of the people who are being victimised needlessly by a selfish and brutal regime that has no sense of sympathy towards fellow human beings.
