India: Protest March

Following the recent IIPM vs. The Blogs controversy, there is a call for a protest march in Bangalore, where bloggers plan to come together.

    PROTESTING THE PROTEST MARCH

Even though IIPM surely needs to learn from the mishandling of the situation, the protest march idea of these bloggers is hilarious! It would be interesting to ask these self-proclaimed protectors of “freedom of speech and expression” how many times have they organized such protest marches for removing poverty in India, for ensuring the people don’t die because of dying, for committing to removing illiteracy in even their own city!

It would be interesting to know the answer because under the pretext of marking out freedom of speech, all these bloggers are doing is trying to come in the media for a cause which is unbelievable unlettered.

Accepted, there are management institutes and management institutes. But really, so are car manufacturers. I am sure that the next issue this group of bloggers would find would be to have a protest march to protest the lack of aesthetic competence in designers of Aston Martin.

This peace march displays the illiteracy prevalent even in literate masses. The right to organize such a peace march should be exercised only after each member of the peace march has sworn that he/she has spent at least one day in their lifetime doing social work. Because the irony of such incompetence is that not one person will have the committment to stand up to this claim.

Tsk, tsk… But of course yes. Bloggers can claim whatever they wish to, can’t they! And I am sure that the moment this comment is published, there would be a thousand so-called protest marchers who will claim that IIPM should first learn to do social service. Or better, yours truly should learn to do social service. What the heck! Go have the protest march. What better a way than this to shore up the free time of a group of unintellectual unemployed illiterates.

Say what, just give me the time and venue. I’ll be there too buddies; because you know what, I am unemployed, and being a graduate, even I am as good as an illiterate. And the fact that I have devoted so much space to protest a protest march, shows how unintellectual even I am.

So buddies, can I join the club?

  • @ K Krishnamoorthy

I am, indeed, a social worker.
If you’d like to wax eloquent about the problems of this country, do go on. There are laudable efforts by a tremendous number of people who are workers for those less fortunate. Those without electricity and who have no idea what ethical journalism and free speech are.
Unfortunately, these efforts aren’t deemed worthy enough of precious column space, which is probably why you were so quick to discount the voluntary sector.
(And there will be no ‘marching’. You can contact the organisers for details if you’d like to know more.)

And why are you so worried about appearing ‘unintellectual’?
If you really are concerned about the impoverished teeming millions, there’s plenty you can do.

  • This is for K. Krishnamoorthy above.

Without prejudice to the ‘protest’ (which may or may not achieve anything), the issue is not that IIPM is perpetrating a fraud. The world is full of frauds, nobody can get rid of all of them.

Msrs. Bansal and Sabnis merely pointed out what a laughable fraud IIPM is. All well so far, you are a fraud, you are a slut, my daddy can beat up your daddy and everybody’s happy. Except that the JAM expose was based on fact and IIPM did not choose to refute a single point in the article.

They got dirty. They called Rashmi names, they spammed Gaurav’s blog. Irritating but not intolerable. Then they used money power to try and get a retraction from Gaurav. Kudos to IBM (Lenovo?) for not succumbing, a hooray for poor idealistic naive Gaurav who actually resigned to ‘prevent embarrassment for his employers”.

The issue, then, is one of bullying. And solidarity.

I would submit, with all humility, that many of us bloggers have attempted some kind of ‘social work’. Some of the bloggers you dismiss actually do very good non-profit work. Full-time.
All said and done, presumption is best avoided.

I completely agree with Mr. Krishnamurth’s comments. I live in Bangalore and find it amusing that bloggers, who generally have no cause to support, are undertaking a peace march for supporting freedom of speech.

If only some of these could even support the urban requirements of forcing the Chief Minister in Karnataka (the state of which Bangalore is a city) to build better roads in Bangalore.

I second the opinion that it seems a personally motivated move by a handful of gold=diggers to garner media attention on themselves.

I hope their effort is redirected towards more productive objectives.

  • Mr.Krishnamoorthy’s comment, above, is judgemental and unwarranted.

The group of bloggers calling for the protest are not media-hungry social activists, jumping to champion any cause real or trivial, nor do they in any way claim to be so ; they are not claiming to be here to clean up the various ills rampant in society. They are merely banding together to protest what is a breach of any blogger’s freedom of speech.

What has today happened to a few individuals, if left un-challenged, can set a bad precedent that can affect any blogger, anywhere. Nowhere has this group made any personal attacks. Mr.Krishnamoorthy, however, had degenrated to drawing a character anaylysis of this group that has no basis in reality.

These bloggers are not illiterate, unemployed and in-competant; they are a group of regular people who have raised their voices in support for one of their own ilk. And they do not deserve the derision of one such as Mr.Krishnamoorthy.

He need not agree with their line of action ; he is welcome to his opinion, ofcourse. He should, however, refrain from airing conclusions about people he does not even know.

  • Hello Neha,
Thanks for publicizing this. Would also like to bring to your attention that we have created an online petition (petitiononline.com/blogbang) and a statement, meant to be put up on blogs as a post, and sent around as an e-mail. It is up on my blog, http://kaashyapeya.blogspot.com, and we’re requesting all bloggers to post this on their blogs.
    Thanks,
    Arka

  • Interestingly, both Krishnamoorthy and Narayan K. Kutty are effectively anonymous posters! Sock puppets?

  • K.Krishnamoorthy and Narayan K. Kutty. Which one of these is the sock puppet?

  • Ridiculous…

Making Sabnis look like a hero that is…

I feel that his quitting IBM was the most immature thing to happen in this whole episode, more than that of the IIPM dudes threatening to burn laptops.

So what happens if he joins MicroSoft and IIPM threatend to switch over all their Windows OS to Linux. He’s gonna quit again ?

By quitting IBM, he actually pettied the whole issue . I’m sure IIPM is having a heart laugh…
