Hong Kong: Ching Cheong

Categories: East Asia, Hong Kong (China)

Is the arrest of journalist Ching Cheong [1], formerly ‘detained’ and recently charged with spying for Taiwan, a victim of a power tussle between the Shanghai clique and the Jiang Zemin's? There had been other journalists having similarly-linked run-ins with the government, says Chatter Garden [2]. The blogger wonders whether somebody is mad at Hu Jintao because Ching was formerly working for Hu's think-tank, the Chinese University of Social Sciences. The expressed fear is more arrests and even tighter controls on the media, soon.
